KTM 160 duke has officially launched its most affordable streetfighter, the new 160 Duke, in India at an introductory price of ₹1.85 lakh (ex-showroom). This new model marks KTM’s return to the sub-200cc category after the discontinuation of the Duke 125 and is aimed squarely at rivals like the Yamaha MT-15 V2 and TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.
KTM 160 Duke – Engine & Performance
The KTM 160 Duke is powered by a 164.2cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, SOHC engine producing 19 hp at 9,500 rpm and 15.5 Nm of peak torque at 7,500 rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox with assist and slipper clutch technology for smoother gear shifts and reduced wheel hop during aggressive downshifts.
This performance figure gives it an edge over the Yamaha MT-15 V2, delivering slightly more power and torque, and making it a strong contender in the 160cc premium bike segment.
Suspension, Brakes & Hardware
KTM has equipped the 160 Duke with a steel trellis frame, a design seen across its performance lineup. Suspension duties are handled by 43mm WP Apex upside-down forks at the front (138mm travel) and a preload-adjustable WP monoshock at the rear (161mm travel).
For braking, it features a 320mm front disc and 230mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS as standard, ensuring better safety and stopping power. The bike runs on 17-inch alloy wheels with tubeless tyres.
Design & Features
The 160 Duke carries KTM’s signature aggressive styling with sharp lines, muscular fuel tank extensions, and a sporty stance.
Key features include:
All-LED lighting (headlamp, tail lamp, indicators)
5-inch LCD instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity & navigation support
Three colour options – Electronic Orange, Atlantic Blue, and Silver Metallic Matte
Fuel tank capacity: 10.1 litres
Kerb weight: 147 kg
Seat height: 815 mm
KTM RC 160 – Coming Soon
KTM also confirmed that a fully-faired version, the KTM RC 160, is in development and will be launched soon. This model will target the Yamaha R15 V4, offering the same engine but in a sportier, track-focused package.
KTM 160 Duke vs Rivals
Yamaha MT-15 V2 – Slightly cheaper (~₹15,000 less), but lower power output
TVS Apache RTR 160 4V – More affordable, strong feature list, but less premium hardware
KTM 160 Duke – Premium build, higher performance, advanced suspension & braking
Verdict
The KTM 160 Duke is a solid addition to the premium commuter and entry-level sports bike market in India. With its sharp styling, powerful engine, premium components, and KTM’s racing DNA, it’s an attractive option for riders seeking performance without stepping into the 200cc+ category.
If priced and marketed well, the Duke 160 could shake up the competition in the 160cc premium segment and appeal strongly to young riders looking for style, speed, and brand prestige.
